M.O.L.D. gallery is a DIY art gallery in vancouver that hosts contemporary art exhibitions 2-3 times a year. Started by Mikaela Kautzky, the gallery exists in a garage in an alley and doubles as a shared artist studio between her of 2 other artists. For the shows, the studio is trasnformed into an exhibition space for 1-3 days. This is the second iteration of the garage gallery, now going by M.O.L.D_2.
Starting in 2021, the gallery hosts solo and duo shows for emerging artists. Often being people’s first time getting to exhibit their work alone, the point of M.O.L.D. is to be a bit of a loop hole in the system, so artists can add something to their CV and in turn, get more shows and apply for grants. But moreover, the gallery is a place for experimenting, showcasing work, and exploring installations in an alternaitve space with odd conditions. The gallery is called M.O.L.D. because of the literal definition of the word “mold” - to fit a mold, to be malleable, to suit the needs of creative practices of emerging artists, to take different shapes... also there was mold in the last garage... maybe this one too... its also an acronym that can M.O.L.D. into whatever u want it to be... one of the first ones was “moments. of. loving. dearly.”
